Jan 2026KOPILOT.ID x Hillary Allen: Welcome to the Crew
If you follow trail and mountain running, you already know Hillary Allen. Most of the running world calls her "Hillygoat," a nickname she earned for her love of steep, technical terrain. She was born in Fort Collins, Colorado, and started trail running while working toward a PhD in science. She was winning races almost right away. By 2017 she ranked among the top skyrunners in the world, with podiums and wins at Lavaredo Ultra Trail, Madeira Island Ultra Trail, Ultra Trail Cape Town, Cortina Trail and Broken Arrow Skyrace. So we're pretty stoked to say Hillary is teaming up with KOPILOT.ID.
Hillary knows better than almost anyone what's at stake out there. In 2017, during a skyrace in Tromsø, Norway, a rock gave way under her foot and she fell about 150 feet off a ridge. She broke 14 bones, including both arms, two vertebrae, several ribs and bones in her feet. It took a helicopter about two and a half hours to get her off the mountain and to a hospital. Doctors told her she probably wouldn't race again.
She did anyway. After about a year of physical and mental recovery, she was racing again at Broken Arrow in 2018. In 2019 she went back to Tromsø and finished the same course where she fell. She wrote about the whole thing in her book, Out and Back: A Runner's Story of Survival Against All Odds, and gave a TEDx talk called "You Can Challenge the Impossible." She has since added gravel racing to her résumé, starting with Unbound Gravel. In 2025 she qualified for Team USA's uphill race at the World Mountain Running Championships.
That's why this partnership makes so much sense. KOPILOT.ID is a digital emergency ID that lives on your gear. One tap or scan gives first responders the info they need: who you are, who to call, and the medical details that matter. You don't need an app, and you don't have to dig through a pack on a ridgeline. When you're hurt in remote terrain, the people helping you are often strangers, and you may not be able to speak for yourself. Hillary has lived that moment, and it's exactly the moment we built KOPILOT.ID for.
We think a lot about what happens when a day in the mountains doesn't go as planned. Hillary's story is proof that you can push your limits, have the worst-case scenario happen, and still come back to the start line.
Keep an eye on the Stories page for more as the collab rolls on.
Welcome to the crew, Hillary. Run hard, stay safe.
